Reginald Cyntje"According to Reginald Cyntje, Washington, DC's own trombone master, what he does is not so much music as "vibrations flowing thru the air to inspire something greater."*

Reginald let me know last week that he is finally going to record his first CD as a leader entitled "Freedom's Children - The Celebration"! The project was launched to coincide with his 35th birthday.

It's always exciting to me when I hear about new music being created. He is my latest friend to use Kickstarter.com to fund the recording of an album!

What is Kickstarter?

Kickstarter is a new way to fund creative ideas and ambitious endeavors.

We believe that:

• A good idea, communicated well, can spread fast and wide.
• A large group of people can be a tremendous source of money and encouragement.

Kickstarter is powered by a unique all-or-nothing funding method where projects must be fully-funded or no money changes hands.

Here is a video of Reginald sharing what he hopes to achieve with this project:

"The story takes the listener on a journey from playful child-like melodies to compositions expressing adult awareness. As I reflect on my experiences to this point, I feel compelled to say thank you to the community by offering a collection of songs I’ve composed. There have been previous opportunities to record as a bandleader but I wanted to wait until I arrived at a place where I could clearly articulate culture, heritage and experience as an adult. At the age of 25, I was not mature enough to create a project that would be about uplifting community."

If you are on Twitter and are a part of the growing jazz community there, you probably know Reginald. If you're not, get to know him through his blog - "Thoughts of Reginald Cyntje - Peace, love and music". To fund the recording of "Freedom's Children - The Celebration" click here.

With more and more artists going the crowd-funding route, it appears that the old days of being musical chattel for the major labels are coming to an end.

If you are able, I would like to encourage you to fund this project. Thank you.
