"Every now and again you hear a special voice that makes you sit up and take notice. ...Sachal Vasandani has that voice." - Michelle Norris, NPR "All Things Considered"
Vocalist/composer/arranger Sachal Vasandani is set to debut his new project at the Jazz Gallery in New York City on Friday, November 25 and Saturday, November 26, with sets at 9:00pm and10:30pm. The new group, called Mouth Island v. 1, features guitarist Julian Lage, pianist Fabian Almazan and percussionist Tupac Mantilla. The ensemble will be joined by a special guest, to be announced.
The vocalist's most recent album, Hi-Fly, received critical acclaim after its release this past June on Mack Avenue Records. The upcoming performance at the Jazz Gallery will consist primarily of new original music by the artist, as well as a few older tunes. "I'm excited to try out a bunch of new songs with a new color palette- acoustic guitar, percussion, piano and electronics," says Vasandani. "The players are all guys I admire and I think it's going to be really beautiful."
