Seven For Saturday: RIP Gil Scott-Heron (1949-2011)

Gil Scott-HeronGil Scott-Heron's music was a integral part of the soundtrack of my childhood. I grew up at an interesting time with songs like Inner City Blues (Makes Me Wanna Holler) by Marvin Gaye and Gil Scott-Heron's The Revolution Will Not Be Televised playing persistently through HiFi speakers around North Philly.

I remember being captivated with Scott-Heron's delivery of words even though I didn't get the gist of most of what he was saying (I was between 5-6 years old when The Revolution Will Not Be Televised was originally released).

The longer that I live on this Earth, the better I discern what both Gil and Marvin were talking about in their music. And to that I say:

"The more things change, the more they stay the same." - Alphonse Karr

Rest in Peace, Mr. Scott-Heron.
