Seven for Saturday - 7 James Moody Videos

"Seven for Saturday" is a great way to see some of the legendary men and women of jazz in action.

I've known for a few weeks that saxophonist James Moody has pancreatic cancer. This news saddens me more than usual because he is the first living legend that I've ever met. There's a personal connection for me now, no matter how brief the encounter was. I remember instantly where I met him (Washington, DC's Blues Alley in 2006), what was going on, who I was with and how the interaction was (fantastic!).

His wife, Linda Moody, posted this open letter to everyone on his website earlier this month (Nov 2010):

Dizzy Gillespie's Legacy Lives On

The Dizzy Gillespie All-Star Big Band finished a 6-night engagement last evening (I'm sure with a packed house at every show) at New York City's legendary Blue Note!

During the summer of 1998, the band was formed to perform Gillespie's classic big band repertoire and continue the legacy left by the late Jazz master.
