 Lage's Working Ensemble to Make Winter Jazzfest Debut

at New York's Sullivan Hall, January 6

 

Following significant activity in 2011, which included the release of his critically acclaimed album Gladwell and national/international tours with vibraphonist Gary Burton as well as his own ensemble (among other highlights), virtuoso guitarist Julian Lage has yet another ambitious year planned for 2012. He most recently unveiled a new group and will continue to perform with his working ensemble, the Julian Lage Group.

Sachal Vasandani to Debut New Music & New Project, November 25 & 26 at NYC's Jazz Gallery!

Vocalist/composer/arranger Sachal Vasandani is set to debut his new project at the Jazz Gallery in New York City on Friday, November 25 and Saturday, November 26, with sets at 9:00pm and10:30pm. The new group, called Mouth Island v. 1, features guitarist Julian Lage, pianist Fabian Almazan and percussionist Tupac Mantilla. The ensemble will be joined by a special guest, to be announced.

Conversations with The New Gary Burton Quartet on "Common Ground" (Videos)

In this quickie post, you get to see the members of the new Gary Burton Quartet expound briefly on working with one another and their individual contributions to the new album Common Ground

Vibraphonist Gary Burton talks about what jazz great influenced his style of being a leader. Julian Lage (guitar) shares about how much of a tremendous influence Gary Burton has been on his approach to improvising and about his original intentions for the song Etude. Drummer Antonio Sanchez chats about his two contributions to the album - the title track Common Ground and Did You Get It? And Scott Colley (bass) lets us know how Never The Same Way came together on the first morning of rehearsals.

The New Gary Burton Quartet's "Common Ground" + 2011 Summer & Fall Tour Dates!

Self-taught, GRAMMY award winning vibraphonist Gary Burton hasn't released a studio album since 2005's Next Gerneration.  

Six years later, Mr. Burton has a new attitude, band and recording label - Mack Avenue Records. The additional members of this incarnation of his quartet are: guitarist Julian Lage, bassist Scott Colley and Antonio Sánchez on the drums.
