Seven for Saturday - 7 Videos of Brazilian Jazz Pianist Eliane Elias

"Seven for Saturday" is a great way to see some of the men and women of jazz in action.

Eliane Elias

Multi GRAMMY Award nominee, pianist/singer/composer/arranger Eliane Elias is known for her distinctive and immediately recognizable musical style which blends her Brazilian roots, her sensuous, alluring voice with her impressive instrumental jazz, classical and compositional skills.

Born in Sao Paulo, Brazil, Eliane Elias’ musical talents began to show at an early age. She started studying piano at age seven and at age twelve was transcribing solos from the great jazz masters.

In 1981, she headed for New York. By 1982 Elias landed a spot in the acclaimed group Steps Ahead. Eliane was the first woman instrumentalist to be on the cover of Down Beat Magazine.

She has recorded over twenty albums to date. All of her recordings have went Top 5 on Billboard Magazine and Top 5 on Radio Charts in the USA, with many reaching number one.

The last video is the EPK (electronic press kit) for her 2008 (and most recent album) "Bossa Nova Stories".

Bonus Video!

Flora Purim (vocal), Elaine Elias (vocal & piano), David Sanborn (sax), Oscar Castro Neves (guitar & vocal), Lee Ritenour (guitar), Paulinho Braga (drums), Airto Moreira (percussion), and Nana Vasconcelos (barimbao) all play a medley paying tribute to Antonio Carlos Jobim. Originally broadcast in 1997.

I was listening to her today in my classroom--- thought it would warm us all up after waking to an ice storm leaving the area.
