Jazz Bistro at Whistler Olympic Plaza

Award-winning Whistler catering company Whistler Cooks and owner Grant Cousar are bringing their culinary talents to Whistler Olympic Plaza via the Jazz Bistro presented by The Globe And Mail and North Shore Credit Union. Delivering an exceptional gourmet food experience for festival goers, Whistler Cooks won "Best Event Caterer” award at the Canadian special events national awards gala for catering services provided for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. The Whistler Olympic Plaza Jazz Bistro menu will offer food service throughout the day from noon to 10pm and will feature items incorporating many locally sourced ingredients such as burgers made from Okanagan Ranch natural beef, Pemberton potatoes, a local farmgate cheese platter, a North Pacific albacore tuna nicoise salad, along with other snacks, cheeses and non-alcoholic beverages.

With free and ticketed concerts at indoor and outdoor venues throughout Whistler, the Festival features an explosive lineup of talent in its first year. The renowned Bearfoot Bistro’s resident pianist and music director Cameron Chu offers his own take and advice on the Festival.

“The calibre of the entertainment this weekend is absolutely top notch, and when you consider the size of this Festival the variety is exceptional,” says Chu. “Although one may be tempted to see only the well known headliners, one must keep in mind the young unknown acts may very well be the stars of tomorrow. My advice to the jazz rookie is to see everything you can! I am looking forward to seeing as many of the acts and classes as possible.”

Performers include guitar greats Kevin Eubanks and Stanley Jordan; contemporary jazz masters The Rippingtons and Spyro Gyra, and Jazz veterans Oliver Jones and The New Gary Burton Quartet, plus a host of other talented artists.

Other highlights include the newly opened Whistler Olympic Plaza as the main ticketed venue, a Master Class Series offering intimate performances and learning sessions with six renowned jazz masters, a late night jazz series at Millennium Place and the Fairmont Chateau Whistler’s Mallard Lounge, an Acoustic Jazz Series at the North Shore Credit Union, a jazz brunch featuring Guitarist Lorne Lofsky accompanied by Chu at the Bearfoot Bistro, and interactive, family-friendly Street Entertainment, and more.
