A Note from the Jazz Director of Newark Academy:

The Evening of Jazz has been an annual concert at Newark Academy to showcase its numerous jazz ensembles. This year we are dedicating our concert to the families of Sandy Hook and the Greene family. We will have three world class musicians joining our award-winning jazz program for the evening - Marcus Printup, trumpeter of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra; Steve Turre, trombonist currently with the Saturday Night Live Band; and Wayne Escoffery, tenor saxophonist currently with both Tom Harrells Quintet and the Mingus Big Band. Please view the videos below to see our guest musicians and Ana Grace Marquez-Greene.

All proceeds will go directly to the families of Sandy Hook and the Ana Grace Fund. Ana Grace was one of the children killed during the Newtown, CT shootings. Her parents, Jimmy and Nelba, are dear friends of mine. The friendship goes back to my years in college.

My family and I have visited the Greene's several times to support them in any way we can. We are in awe of how Jimmy, Nelba, and their nine year old son Isaiah have dealt with this devastating and surreal tragedy. Ana was musically gifted. I thought that it would be fitting to honor Ana's memory with music. In our efforts to raise funds for this worthy cause, we are hopeful that you can join us on April 12th for this special evening of music.

Thank you,

Julius Tolentino
