A Note from the Jazz Director of Newark Academy:

The Evening of Jazz has been an annual concert at Newark Academy to showcase its numerous jazz ensembles. This year we are dedicating our concert to the families of Sandy Hook and the Greene family. We will have three world class musicians joining our award-winning jazz program for the evening - Marcus Printup, trumpeter of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra; Steve Turre, trombonist currently with the Saturday Night Live Band; and Wayne Escoffery, tenor saxophonist currently with both Tom Harrells Quintet and the Mingus Big Band. I skipped "World Wide Wednesday" last week but now I'm back on track. If you're not sure what that phrase means, it's when I feature a jazz artist that wasn't born in America (typically on Wednesdays).

Cool? Okay, let me get started.

Today I would like to introduce you to a London-born tenor saxophonist that I discovered, where else? On that treasure-trove of a website - YouTube. (Yes, I know that there's a lot of junk on there, but I've found it to be a great resource for jazz videos.)

JAM 2010: 156 Artists for a New Jazz Experience (Part XII)

Good morning! This is the final installment of "JAM (Jazz Appreciation Month) 2010: 156 Artists for a New Jazz Experience".

I know that many of you have enjoyed the series based on the email and tweets on Twitter that I've received over the past two weeks. It was my pleasure and honor to pull it together for everyone. I'm already working on a different list of artists for JAM 2011!
